Supplier One Sub-Design System
Early Adoption:
Walmart has an extensive product suite filled with dynamic and diverse UI needs. I was an early adopter of the Living Design subsystem - a tool built for Walmart designers to use as a foundation in the development of our enterprise projects. We implemented the foundational library design styles into the production of our Supplier One library. I facilitated the process and set weekly calendar sessions to audit components, aligned with teammates and mentored how to use auto layouts to create new patterns and components within Supplier One.
Here are some of the benefits of creating a design system library for our specific project:
Consistency: A design system library helps to ensure that all aspects of a project's design are consistent, from the typography and colors to the layout and interactions. This is important for creating a positive user experience and for building brand recognition.
Efficiency: A design system library can save designers and developers a lot of time and effort by providing them with pre-built components and patterns. This allows them to focus on the more creative aspects of the design process.
Collaboration: A design system library can help to improve communication and collaboration between designers and developers. By having a shared set of components and guidelines, everyone can work on the same page and ensure that the final product is aligned with the project's goals.
Here are some specific ways that the Supplier One design system library simplified team alignment and communication:
Provided a common language: Helped team of designers and developers to use when communicating about the design of a project. This can help to avoid misunderstandings and ensure that everyone is on the same page and acts as a tool that reduces wrong decisions.
Expedites process: A design system library can reduce the need for documentation, as it provides a central repository for all of the information that designers and developers need to know about the design of a project. This can free up time for designers and developers to focus on other tasks.
Facilitates feedback: A design system library can facilitate feedback between designers and developers. By having a shared set of components and patterns, it is easier to provide specific feedback on the design of a project.

BACKGROUND SCOPE:
Our goal for the redesign is to take a modular development approach, which means designing and producing a component-based user interface that creates a sustainable technical architecture. (Think of components as Legos: interchangeable building blocks you can assemble into pages)
